Phil Thompson believes Steven Gerrard should be given the opportunity to lead England out at Euro 2012 and is hoping that former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson will give the No.8 his chance when the squad is announced this afternoon. Both Thompson and Gerrard have lifted the European Cup as Liverpool captains and both have played their part in leading the national team.

Liverpool legend Jan Molby was manager for the day when 16 lucky Reds fans got the chance to play on the hallowed Anfield turf. Hundreds of entries came from across the country as fans voted for their favourite players and 16 entrants were invited to play at Anfield on Monday wearing a legend’s name on the back of their Liverpool FC shirt.

The Liverpool Ladies squad took time out of their preparations for the start of the second Women’s Super League season this weekend to visit Melwood and meet their male counterparts. The Reds ladies dropped by the club’s training complex ahead of their season opener against Bristol Academy on Sunday to chat with the likes of Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Luis Suarez.
