Spaniard: It was the perfect response

Rodolfo Borrell hailed the character of his Liverpool U18 side after they bounced back from their FA Youth Cup frustration with a 2-1 victory at Newcastle.

Goals from Adam Morgan and substitute Michael Ngoo did the damage as the young Reds made it seven wins on the spin in the FA Premier Academy League.
It was the perfect response to last week’s heartbreaking 3-2 cup reversal against Manchester United and Borrell admitted he was delighted by the way his team dug deep to secure the points.
He told Liverpoolfc.tv: “It’s been a difficult week for us following the Youth Cup defeat.
“We needed to respond in the right way and I think we did that today.
“Over the course of the past seven days I have demanded that we stick together more than ever - that we keep working hard and don’t look for excuses.
“I was determined to make sure that we learned from the mistakes that cost us against Man United. We lost focus following the penalty incident in that game and I asked for an immediate response.
“I think we did that here at Newcastle. We needed to get back to basics and play our type of football again.
“I’m really pleased with the lads because I think they produced an excellent performance, especially in the first half.
“We went ahead playing the way we know we can and I felt we were at our top level in the opening 45 minutes.
“Newcastle fought back in the second half and got themselves level. After that every last one of my players worked for each other to hold firm. In the end we were able to resist the momentum they had built and got a well worked winner.
“I felt we deserved it for what was a great team display and I am delighted with all of the lads. Now we need to keep going and maintain that standard in the run-in.”
Liverpool U18s: Stephens, Poor, Sama, McGiveron, Smith, Roddan, Adorjan, Coady, Sterling, Silva (Ngoo 60), Morgan.
