Sir Alex Ferguson has scooped the Barclays Manager of the Month award for August 2011 following a fantastic few weeks for Manchester United.

The prize is recognition for the champions sitting top of the table, ahead of local rivals Manchester City on goal difference, after a 100 per cent start to the league season comprising victories over West Bromwich Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

The United boss has now won the monthly award on a record 26 occasions, 15 more than his closest rival Arsene Wenger.

Man City did manage to get the upper hand in the Player of the Month category, however, with the Barclays Premier League’s leading scorer Edin Dzeko picking up the prize following his four-goal haul at White Hart Lane last weekend.
