Gabriel Obertan and Bebe struck late goals to salvage a point for United in a thrilling, edgy Reserves clash with Wolves in Telford.
The hosts had forged two goals ahead before Robbie Brady hammered the Reds back into the match. The Irishman was then involved in a clash with James Spray which prompted the dismissal of both players, before Wolves established a 3-1 lead just after the hour.
United poured forward in the final third of the match, however, and drew level when Obertan and Bebe both latched onto measured long balls and clipped home smart finishes.
For a game which lacked sustained spells of quality possession football, there were plentiful talking points and some superb finishes on show. Early on, Bebe’s close-range shot drew a smart stop from goalkeeper Dan East, who then made a fine one-handed save from Joshua King’s curling effort after a surging run from Oliver Gill.
With the lively Michael Kightly continuing his comeback from injury, however, the hosts always looked menacing, and they forged ahead with two quickfire goals in six minutes before the interval. First Geoffrey Mujangi-Bia curled a 20-yard effort into Conor Devlin’s far corner, then Sam Griffiths drilled a low, 30 yard shot through a thicket of bodies and past the unsighted Devlin.
Just a minute later, however, United hit back in stunning fashion. Brady picked up the ball on the right flank, cut inside and unleashed a ferocious 25-yard effort high into East’s goal.
