Sam Johnstone was a standout performer as ten-man Scunthorpe United drew 0-0 with Brentford to record a first clean sheet in 26 Football League matches.
The United keeper has impressed since joining the Iron on loan and pulled off a string of saves at Griffin Park on Saturday, including a low stop to thwart Niall McGinn’s long-range effort.
Johnstone almost dropped a clanger, however, when his first touch was found wanting by Clayton Donaldson, who was unable to finish.
Speaking after the match, Sam was understandably delighted with his side’s performance. “It’s great to have kept a clean sheet. It feels good for everyone.
“We went down to ten men so it was a good result. We even had chances to win it. We all dug in and hopefully it shows that we are a good side and we’ll carry it on in to next week.”
Johnstone’s Reds teammates Oliver Norwood also featured for Scunthorpe, playing a full game in midfield. The Northern Irishman almost created a goal when his corner was latched onto by the impressive Shane Duffy, whose shot was well saved by Richard Lee.
