Federico Macheda impressed on his first start for QPR but was unable to prevent the Barclays Premier League club drawing 1-1 with MK Dons in the FA Cup third round.

The Italian, on loan at Loftus Road until the end of the season, looked lively alongside strike partner DJ Campbell before departing on 71 minutes with his side trailing.

Despite the fact they had never played together, the pair did forge a quick understanding and almost found an opening when Campbell headed Macheda’s cross agonisingly wide.

Neil Warnock, who signed Macheda last week, was relieved of his duties shortly after the match, leaving QPR without a manager heading into the second half of the season.

As a reward for his fine form, Danny Drinkwater’s stay with Barnsley has been extended to the end of this campaign. Unfortunately, the young striker’s influence could not stop his side losing 4-2
