The Reds hope to knock out more North-West opposition in this season’s FA Cup…

Form guideIf United are going to win this season’s FA Cup, they’re going to do it the hard way. After beating neighbours Manchester City, the Reds’ reward was a trip to face old foes Liverpool with a fifth-round place up for grabs. The Merseysiders, who beat Oldham Athletic 5-1 in the previous stage, should be tricky opponents on Saturday and they might have revenge in their sights after exiting the competition at Old Trafford last season. Kenny Dalglish’s men have struggled for consistency this term and were on a poor run prior to Wednesday’s Carling Cup semi-final aggregate win over Manchester City. Sir Alex Ferguson, on the other hand, will be encouraged by his side’s impressive away form – including victories at both City and Arsenal this month – and will hope to improve on last October’s 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Ins and outsLiverpool’s early-season promise was dealt a blow when key midfielder Lucas Leiva was ruled out for the rest of the campaign. The much-improved Brazilian’s absence has been partly covered by the recent return of club legend Steven Gerrard, who scored penalties in both legs of the semi-final against City. Sir Alex’s injury worries worsened last weekend at Arsenal with both Phil Jones and Nani limping off while Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick, Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra also picked up knocks. Long-term absentees Tom Cleverley, Michael Owen, Nemanja Vidic, Anderson and Ashley Young are all still unavailable.
