Sam Johnstone wasted little time in getting his hands dirty for Scunthorpe United, making his competitive debut for The Iron in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United just a day after signing on loan from the Reds.

The England Under-19 keeper played a full 90 minutes for Alan Knill’s side and was unlucky to concede Ched Evans’ acrobatic equaliser late in the second half. Scunthorpe striker Chris Dagnall had earlier handed the home side a shock lead against the League One leaders, just moments after Andy Barcham saw red for a rash challenge on Blades midfielder Michael Doyle.

Johnstone has linked up with fellow FA Youth Cup winner and Reserves midfielder Oliver Norwood, who is also enjoying a loan spell at Glanford Park. Norwood, making his third appearance for the club, played for 71 minutes and will be happy with an unrelenting, combative performance.

Elsewhere, three loaned-out Reds were involved as Hull City beat Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough 1-0. Robbie Brady was on the winning side against United colleagues Ryan Tunnicliffe and Scott Wootton.
