United could face Barclays Premier League rivals Arsenal in the Carling Cup fourth round, after both sides successfully navigated tricky ties against Leeds and Shrewsbury on Tuesday night.

Two goals from Michael Owen, followed by a superb solo effort from Ryan Giggs, secured a comfortable 3-0 win at Elland Road to ensure the Reds’ place in Saturday’s draw.
