United drew level on points with Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester City by trouncing ten-men Wigan Athletic 5-0 at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.
An unfamiliar looking line-up – with Michael Carrick at centre-back and Wayne Rooney on the bench – cruised to a comfortable Christmas victory thanks to a hat-trick from Dimitar Berbatov and other goals from Ji-sung Park and stand-in right-back Antonio Valencia.
Meanwhile, visiting striker Conor Sammon was the player shown the red card by referee Phil Dowd, who also awarded a penalty against the Latics – converted by Berbatov to complete his triple.
