Jonny Evans impressed in the only European Championship qualifier of the night as Northern Ireland defeated Faroe Islands 4-0 in Belfast.
The home side were made to work for their Group C victory but Evans superbly teed up the third goal for the outstanding Paddy McCourt, who scored twice, with a clever backheel.
Darron Gibson was booked in Republic of Ireland’s 0-0 draw with Croatia as he played the full 90 minutes but Anders Lindegaard didn’t get off the bench as Denmark were beaten 2-1 in Scotland.
Nemanja Vidic played in Serbia’s 1-0 away defeat to Russia and picked up a yellow card in the closing stages, and Mame Biram Diouf took part in the last half hour of Senegal’s 2-0 reverse to Morocco. Nani also came on as a substitute, for Portugal, in their friendly against Luxembourg.
At Under-21 level, Federico Macheda came on as a subsitute in Italy’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland while Oliver Norwood played the full 90 minutes of Northern Ireland’s win against Faroe Islands as the youngsters mirrored the senior team’s 4-0 scoreline.
