Andy Carroll and Jay Spearing have been omitted from the England U21 squad for this summer’s European Championships in Denmark.

Carroll missed Liverpool’s final-day defeat at Aston Villa on Sunday due to a knee injury and has therefore not been selected for the tournament, according to coach Stuart Pearce.
He said: “Andy has been ruled out through injury.”
Meanwhile, Spearing limped out of the 1-0 reversal at Villa Park after sustaining an ankle knock following a heavy challenge by Nigel Reo-Coker and also misses out.
The Liverpool pair were part of 17 players to be removed from the original 40-man selection as Pearce whittled his final squad down to 23 names ahead of the finals next month.
Meanwhile, Glen Johnson is the Reds’ sole representative in the senior England squad named by Fabio Capello to face Switzerland in a Euro 2012 qualifier at Wembley on June 4.
