Borrell’s cup frustration

Rodolfo Borrell couldn’t hide his frustration after seeing his U18 side crash out of the FA Youth Cup after a 3-2 defeat by Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

In a pulsating tie the Reds were in the driving seat at 2-0 up thanks to two goals from Adam Morgan, but United stormed back to edge a five-goal thriller.
Both sides also ended the game with nine men after Liverpool had Sama and Conor Coady sent-off.
“It was totally disappointing and frustrating because a lot of people came out to support us and I told the lads to be focused and put on a very good performance,” Borrell told LFC TV.
“We don’t look for excuses and I just think we lost our composure when Sama received a red card and they got a penalty.
“We were then not at the level we expect as a team and we lost our control and shape.
“Although they are a very good side it hurts because we were 2-0 up at home against Manchester United at Anfield, and we now need to bounce back from this as soon as possible.
“We can learn a lot from this situation. You can not lose your composure like we did. Obviously they are young lads but they have to learn quickly because they want to make a step forward in the future for the first team.”

Explaining his decision not to bring the fit again Michael Ngoo on earlier in the game, Borrell said: “It was a difficult situation to manage after Sama’s red card.
“We did not have another midfielder available so we had to alter our shape.
“We had Michael Ngoo on the bench but I was told by the medical team that he could only play 30 minutes.
“When it went to 2-2 I had to wait as I didn’t want to put him on and then force him to play extra-time too.
“When they got the third so late on I was able to introduce him but it was too late for us to change the outcome.”
