Manchester United fans looking to support the Reds next season while making a handsome profit should dash to Betfair’s top Premier League goalscorer market. There you’ll find the tempting option of backing either Javier Hernandez or Wayne Rooney at around 10 (9-1) to finish 2011/12 top of the pile.

Those are interesting odds given neither man came too close to team-mate Dimitar Berbatov or ex-Red Carlos Tevez last season, players who presumably have half a golden boot each on their Manchester mantelpieces after both finishing on 20 goals.

Both finished the season in fine form, though, and look likely to begin the imminent campaign as Sir Alex’s first-choice strike pairing. The suggestion here would be to back both Hernandez and Rooney at 10 (combined odds of 5.5 (9-2)) which offers some protection should one suffer long-term injury.
