He’s begun the season in fine fettle and Anderson is hoping to maintain his good form in the country where he made his name on Wednesday night.

The midfielder caught United’s eye during his time with FC Porto, with the Reds sealing a surprise deal for him in the summer of 2007.

Anderson’s quality has never been in doubt, but he has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth until this season.

The consistently high standards he has reached so far in 2011/12 have really stood out and he’s aiming to continue producing the goods when the Reds kick off their Champions League campaign against Benfica on Wednesday night.

“The season has been great for me so far,” the Brazilian told reporters at a pre-match press conference.

“It is very special to play here as a former Porto player. Benfica are stronger now than when I played in Portugal for Porto.

“They are growing and are more experienced. The coach is very good so they will be difficult to beat.”
