18/05/2012 10:19, Airtel Africa , one of Manchester United’s regional mobile partners, has returned with a second season of its successful youth football initiative, Airtel Rising Stars (ARS). The programme is the largest in Africa and aims to find some of the continent’s newest footballing talent by identifying it at a grassroots level and nurturing it all the way to the national stage. Ex-Red Quinton Fortune travelled to Africa to attend the official launches of ARS 2012 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo Brazzaville and Tanzania.

Phil Neal believes 2011-12 will be remembered as a hugely successful season if Liverpool win a second domestic trophy next month – regardless of where we finish in the league. The club’s most decorated player of all time feels the Reds’ performances in the cups should not be underestimated – and that they prove progress has been made. And Neal reckons if Kenny Dalglish’s side can add the FA Cup to the Carling Cup against Chelsea at Wembley next month, the current campaign should be regarded as a successful one.

Liverpool FC teamed up with Football v Homophobia to host an awareness-raising tournament at the club’s Kirkby Academy. A total of 12 teams took part in the three-hour event which culminated in a hard-fought final that pitted Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service against Mersey Marauders FC.

Three of Liverpool’s brightest Academy starlets turned out to support local schoolchildren in a Premier League Schools Tournament. The aim of the event, held at the North Liverpool Academy, was to find the best school side, who would go on to represent Liverpool FC against other Premier League clubs in a final in May.

Liverpool FC have announced their involvement with Soccer Prince – the X-Factor-style television programme which aims to unearth football’s next biggest star in emerging football markets around the world. The Reds are now the only Barclays Premier League team to exclusively support the initiative and are offering a one-year development programme under their guidance to the winner. Some of Anfield’s biggest legends are to compete in two star-studded golf days later this year – and they’re inviting fans to join them in order to raise funds for official Liverpool FC former players association charities. Teams of three are being invited to take part and they’ll be joined by a former Reds player in their side. The first event will be held at Frilford Heath Golf Club on Thursday, September 1, before Frodsham Golf Club hosts the second on Friday, September 9.
